Welcome to Odd new Spring. This is a platform for learning with and by so-called Invasive Alien Plants in Norway. The intention is to share reflections, examples and observations in an attempt to outline possibilities for future coexistence.
Registry/ Organisations
There is no central registry for invasive plants around the world, as the definition of an invasive species can vary between countries and regions. However, here are a few organizations that maintain lists of invasive species:
International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) - https://www.iucn.org/
The IUCN provides a global list of invasive species through its Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG). The ISSG maintains a database of invasive species that includes information about their distribution, impacts, and management.
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - https://www.usda.gov/
The USDA has an Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) that maintains a list of federal noxious weeds in the United States. The list includes both plants and animals that are invasive and pose a threat to agriculture and the environment.
The European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) - https://www.eppo.int/
The EPPO maintains a list of invasive alien plants in Europe. The list provides information on the distribution and impacts of invasive species in Europe and the Mediterranean region.
The Global Invasive Species Database (GISD) - https://www.issg.org/database/
The GISD is an online resource that provides information on the biology, ecology, and management of invasive species worldwide. The database is maintained by the Invasive Species Specialist Group of the Species Survival Commission of the IUCN.
The Norwegian Biodiversity (Artsdatabanken) - https://artsdatabanken.no/
is the local registry that this project uses as a starting point and reference.
European Invasive Alien Species Information Network (IAS-network) - https://ias-network.eu/
European Alien Species Information Network (EASIN) - http://easin.jrc.ec.europa.eu/
Non-native Species Secretariat (NNSS) - http://www.nonnativespecies.org/
Global Register of Introduced and Invasive Species (GRIIS) - https://griis.org/
These are just a few examples of organizations that maintain lists of invasive species. Many local authorities will have specific registries and information about invasive species in a their region or country.
